The Luna Moth
It was late and someone
was knocking at the door.
Jumping up, my daughter
opens it and I see
the face of my neighbor.
She excitedly
makes her way in.
In her hand was a jar
and in the jar held
the most amazing sight.
It was huge
by moth standards.
And I couldn't believe my eyes.
Telling the story as to how
she was able to catch it,
I peer into the glass.
Very gently, unscrewing the top,
there lay this creature
of such beauty.
It almost seemed surreal.
The markings were amazing.
The tail that elongated from
the rear set of wings
were delicately ruffled.
I hadn't seen anything like it.
Not too many weeks back,
this same neighbor had left me
a present of a moth
that was big and brown.
She knows how much
I love insects, butterflies
and moths.
I think I took at least 25 pictures
while my husband confirmed
it was indeed a Luna.
These only live 7 days
from early June to early July
and here it is August.
I still can't believe
even as I write,
the beautiful creature
we witnessed tonight.
How lovely is the Master
behind this design!
And not to brag too much,
but I have the absolute best
