Gentle Words
The wind began to pick up
and the air took on a slight chill.
Interesting how it came
without warning
or any significant
or noticeable difference.
It felt like it floated in
and then it simply was.
But I noticed, and so did my friend.
There came multiple mentions
of feeling cold
as we shopped at several stores.
Life comes in so many ways.
Some are obvious
and some things happen
with little changes occurring
where only minor adjustments
need done.
Some things you overlook
and others you pay more attention.
Like those gentle words.
Gentle words are given in response
so as to protect the tender heart
of the one you are with.
Amazing what can be conveyed
and received when said gently.
Like the wind that came today
and with it, the slight chill.
It wasn't rude or abrupt.
It came and surrounded us.
It was with us.
Gentle words can come in
to ears that are listening
without pride or prejudice.
When one listens carefully
to another who is gentle
and the response is out from
a gentleness, there is a
sweet and tender exchange
of learning from each other.
Found out new directions
and shortcuts never seen before.
There is the sweet current
of the flow of life
from one to another.
It seems like a small exchange
of words but the impact is huge.
Wide open hearts
and wide open ears
are the result of gentle words
because they are spoken in love.
There is nothing better
than times like these.
If only we could take more time
because it takes practice to attain.
Social graces and feeling a sense
of being normal with others
is always something 😊
to work out.
We all suffer in ways that
only an un-judgmental ear
will have the privilege to hear.
And in a sweet undercurrent
of grace and humility
we can all relate
to weaknesses expressed.
No one is perfect in this life.
No one.
So we can stop pretending.
We can say we understand each other.
It's a daily struggle
with daily challenges
of this and that.
Let's be gentle with one another.
One day, the struggles
will disappear.
How I can feel the tears well up
at such a thought.
Let's not push and
be aggressive in our approach.
The human spirit is so very tender.
If only we realized the depths
of how sensitive and tender
we all are.
How hard we want to hide it
behind the look
that we have it all together
and fabricate stories
and pretend.
But those gentle words
coax out the real and raw
and these find courage
to express in time
what it's own ears
could never hear before.
You hear the real and raw
that is you
and healing can occur
as light shines on what was once
never brought out to open.
And the spirit is given
room to breathe.
Where breath, there is life.
Thank you for the treasure of your gentle words.
"Be completely humble and gentle;
be patient, bearing with one another in love."
