"Shoot the Moon, My Love."
There is a phrase
that has come to mind often
in the last few days,
"shoot the moon."
For me, it has always meant
to go for the best
and don't worry about money,
or the lack of it,
the time or effort it takes.
"Shoot the moon."
Go for it.
Spoil the one you are with rotten.
Don't hold back.
Give the one you are with
your full attention.
Offer the best.
Be bold and brave.
And don't be embarrassed.
Lavish.
My daughter and I had a
"shoot the moon" experience yesterday.
We rode our bikes together.
Then we drove out to the store
and bought a bunch of ice cream bars.
We ate out under the tree.
Then we enjoyed a long walk
out into the countryside
where wild flowers grew
along the vast fields
of new corn and soybeans.
We picked the flowers.
We tasted the tips of the purple ones.
We skipped together
and held hands.
We lifted our faces toward the sun
as the wind swept our hair.
We talked and laughed.
She raced me home.
And we yelled at the very loud
motorcycle that zoomed past.
We watched an old chick flick
"Those Redheads from Seattle"
and read together before bed.
Somehow in the race of this life
and all its pressures
and its call to the certainty
of what it calls "need",
we have lost the true.
We have lost the worthy.
We have lost the wonder and awe.
We have lost touch with reality.
"Shoot the moon"
Enjoy relationships.
Look into eyes,
hold hands,
watch the stars,
feel the breezes,
pick some wild flowers
and free up something valuable.
Time.
And isn't it interesting how bright
the moon was last night
and even my daughter noticed
and said, "we should take a picture."
Maybe, just maybe
we all need to slow down.
Maybe the things we thought
were important
really aren't.
C'mon now.
Shoot the moon.
Isn't it all about relationship?
What is God saying
about our time with Him?
"Shoot the moon, my love."
