Happy Birthday My Friend

Sneaking out of the house early
on this beautiful morning
as worship played in car
and heart longing as usual -
I anticipated meeting my friend
of many a year.

This friend knew me back
in the days before I was married.
Those days of flannel pajamas
and dogmatic rigidness.

She loved me and showed me
the value of committed friendship.
Her laughter infectious.
Her eyes sparkled.
She was honest and real.
She shared her life with me.
She taught me about life
and helped loosen me up
in many ways.

As we enjoyed
this mornings early breakfast
of blueberry crepes
with her side order of biscuits
and mine of sausage -
I enjoyed her conversation,
her cute dimpled smile,
her infectious laugh
and bright eyes
that tear up
as she speaks.

I enjoy this Godly woman
who has persevered
and loves her Savior
through the thick and thin.

What a day to celebrate
this dear friends birthday,
friendship and the beginning
of a new life begun.

Happy Birthday my friend!
You are beloved
and very dear!

I can't wait to fix an item
you so craftily brought with you
for me to fix.
I am looking forward
to seeing you again.
