Cozies Cozies

She got into the car
and I could tell she was drained.
So unlike her on most days.
And I knew exactly what
she needed to cheer her up.

So I suggested when we get home
she get her pillows,
a nice cozy blanket
and we'd watch a cozy movie
of her choice.
And she lighted up
to hear these plans for her.
Before I could get too far
into the choices,
she gave her choice out loud,
"I.Q", she said
and we both smiled.

Hot chocolate and sliced apples
dipped in Nutella
for her to enjoy while she watched.

As we drove home from school,
the day was different than most.
There are solid clouds
and the air temperature had dipped
down into the 70's
like it does here after a rain.
Even though palm tree's
peppered our view,
It felt strangely like an Indiana day.

"Cozies cozies" I call it.
The act of watching
a childhood selection
from our small VHS library
in your most comfortable clothes
while munching childhood favorites.

We bothed laughed.
You try it.
Say "cozies cozies"
in your best Spanish accent.

Maybe you just had to be here.

My daughter is now on the couch
in her coziest clothing
sipping on her hot chocolate.
Apples are already gone
and she is laughing as
the actors in one of her favorite
childhood movies do their thing.

And I am happy
that she is able to rest.
Sometimes in life,
we just need a day like this.
Life has a way of sending us
a curb ball every now and again.

And she wondered
as I was preparing her cozies pad,
why she didn't do the same for me
when I had one of my days.

I told her she would.
And I know she'll do this
for her own children someday.
Now that just makes me smile.
