Navigating This Life With A Master Navigator

The sun shone brightly through my windshield, slightly blinding me with its intense gaze as it rose this early morn. I eased into the rush hour traffic and began moving with the flow toward my destination into town. With the main bridge out of commission, traffic has been diverted from all around town and I began to think of ways to get to where I was going with the least amount of wait. I know my town. I know the little side streets and back alleys. I know the blocks and the direction one must take to circumvent heavily trodden areas. I smiled as I turned down a little alley path and then onto a brick-paved street. Each intersection presented me with the need to decide which way would get me to my next desired location without too much hassle and greater ease. And as I know this town well, it's challenges aren't hard to find a way around.

At that moment, I thought about how much life itself is like a city full of roadblocks and detours and paths choked in some areas with cars. God alone can see ahead for us. He knows the back alleys and side roads and narrow paths that lead us to where He wants us to go. He knows how to lead us beside quiet waters and green pastures. He leads us in ways as to restore our souls. If we were to follow our own way or the way man sets up to detour us, we'd be stuck in traffic and have longer waits. We'd be angry and get into road rage. We'd jostle for position to try and gain an inch or car length only to spin our wheels and find we haven't gotten very far. We might even be tempted to do something stupid in our angry haste with our own way and cause an accident and endanger others lives.

But God will never leave our inner character to that.

He leads us beside quiet waters and as we follow Him, our soul is restored. It's a completely different path than the one most traveled. But if you will let go and let the Master guide you, surrender your all to Him, it will be amazing how life will still be life. You'll live in that town. You'll go to your work. You will run those same errands. But everything will change. There will be a flow of quiet waters and there will be green pastures. Your restored soul will breath out Life as you have breathed God in. Nothing has changed and yet everything has changed. What a miracle it is to be led by God's gentle Spirit. Surely goodness and love will follow you all the days of your life and you will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
