Finding Treasure For Yourself
There’s nothing like finding treasure
on the beach for yourself,
Nothing like hearing the water
wash over the shore
that is littered with tiny shells
and the tinkling sound it makes,
Nothing like standing at the sea’s edge
occupying space with a sweet seagull
within a couple feet of me
and standing there together,
or watching a flock of pigeons strut about
along the lounge chairs.
Nothing like writing in the moment
while the warm tide sweeps about your feet -
in it comes and out it goes,
over and over and over.
I think I’m just going to stand here
on this day of mist and clouds
and just soak up the moisture in the sea wind
and let the saltiness eat away any dead feet skin.
My trenchcoat makes a good wind breaker
as it layers over the fleece I wear.
My beach capri’s soaked through
and my hair flailing wildly.
I love this.
I love being out by the open sea.
A song comes to mind
that I haven’t heard in a long time
and I begin to sing as I wade:
“I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow.
A wave tossed in the ocean.
A vapor in the wind.
Still You hear me when I'm calling.
Lord, You catch me when I'm falling.
And You've told me who I am.
I am Yours, I am Yours.”
By Casting Crowns “Who Am I”
Being near this huge body of water
created by God just seems to put
so much into perspective for me,
each and every time.
And then after writing this,
I look up and see my dear friend
coming towards me on the beach.
How many years I’ve come with the family
and walked these beaches alone
and wished to have someone
I know and love to walk with me.
And I am so thankful to God
that He made the way for close close friends
to come and be with us on our trip on this year.
Love these sweet friends!!
