Doing Life Together
Friday and Saturday, my daughter had been so busy with school and work without any time to herself to just be. Yesterday, I really felt she needed a day of rest. Her school studies are hefty. She’s in high academic classes.
We decided to go out for breakfast.
We skipped church.
Granma’s has a lovely atmosphere and the owner makes you feel so special and there is that comfortableness and food familiarity there where one can relax as they eat. Great place to chat and share heart to heart. Both of us ordered our favorite breakfast. I asked my daughter to pray over our food. And her prayer almost brought me to tears. She prayed things that were so sweet. One of the things was that in our time together, God would give us what we may have missed at church. She thanked God for all of His goodness to us.
Our conversation was so rich and deep and she is such a good listener and understanding. It’s easy to talk to her. We talked about how we find out what our calling is and I explained a bit of that to her. I pointed out a few things I’ve noticed of her where I see a bit of her calling peeking through. She does care deeply for what is meaningful and what truly matters at her young age. I see a budding desire for the caring of others and what that might look like with her own personality and as her life progresses. I didn’t want to leave and drank quite a bit of coffee. That’s always a good indication of how good a conversation is. I soooo enjoyed my time with her. It was face to face. It was real. It was coming alongside each other and helping one another. It brought a deeper understanding of things that are more important than others. We need caring, listening ears. It was something we both mentioned as we talked. This world needs more of those who do. Because people need to go deep and be able to hear their own hearts ache and it really helps people. To hear people out as they need to get things out.
Well, it helped her and I.
This is what we all want. That quality time of caring and sharing, listening and receiving. Leaving a place with heart-burdens lessened and those good thoughts encouraged and applauded. We are better people when we get to enjoy this rare kind of treasure in life together. And life together is a beautiful thing.
