My Daughter is so Wise

“Mom”, she said to me while we were riding along together last night, “do you know why I don’t get stressed about anything? It’s because I trust God.” She is a girl of few words but they speak such beautiful volumes.

When there is something in our lives that causes us to feel drama or stress, many times it’s because we want to have some kind of control in the situation. This isn’t always the case but when we use the words, “we don’t care”, it can cause the pain of certain things to not be as painful. In some ways, “not caring” helps us move forward. I think this could be reworded as, “I can’t wait around for things to go my way, so I am choosing to look away from the situation and enjoy the freedom of walking by the Spirit.” Or Colossians 3:1-4 says things better,

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” We can give those things that cause worry and stress to God and exchange them for living His way. Which is beautiful.

But who needs to hang on to stress and worry over anything? What does it change? Better to move on and focus on what is right, pure, true, lovely etc. and let go of all the rest. And be happy. Sometimes religious folks will say that we aren’t here to be happy. It’s true that we don’t seek happiness as the end goal. But when we learn to be led by the Holy Spirit, it means our hand is in His which leaves you with only the other hand left. If you are grasping at something else with that other hand, you will be held back from keeping your hand in the Spirits’ to be led. So let it all go. Stay with the Spirit. And be happy. Find that the joy of the Lord is your strength. So what if you lose this other thing or that? You’ll be moving with the wind of freedom. And it’s quite windy right now. Let the ballast go and fly away!
