My Daughter Is Delightful
You come and lay your head on my shoulder.
You bring your cheek near to be kissed.
You sit close so as to touch.
And cuddle up on my lap.
You are not afraid to draw near.
You dance around me.
You reach out for my hand.
You giggle and say silly stuff,
without fear of reprimand.
You ask for whatever your heart desires
at any moment, no matter when,
or how or where.
Never deterred by a no,
asking finds courage again.
You skip along the road
and laugh as we walk along.
You talk and share
and race ahead -
knowing I'll be there.
I love to watch you.
I love that you love me.
Because between us
there is nothing but intimacy.
And when joy you have lost
and the spark has gone
from your eyes -
I try to encourage you
and together we try to find
why and where and what came between -
you and I.
And when with joy
the division gone
and again we hold hands together;
laugh and share -
I am overjoyed.
How I love intimacy with you
and that nothing come between us
ever again.
