A Friend Who Listens
I have a friend who listens.
What a rare treat to find!
The heart is free to unravel
the mystery it hides.
It takes time to listen,
gentleness and kindness too.
It takes putting another
before itself
and even putting on another's shoes.
It takes humility to listen.
No one cares about what you know
until they know you care.
But the sweet thing about listening
is that it needs know nothing
and anyone can find solace
within the depth of caring ear.
To find one who listens
is to find a hidden spring.
In the desert of parched speaking,
an ear is the quencher of thirst.
No man needs our opinions.
For all that a man possesses
without the heart of God
is void and death.
Life demands us hurry.
It demands a song and dance.
The strings are attached
to gnarly and evil hands.
The breath of God brings freedom,
liberty and wide open spaces.
It lifts wings tucked closely in
and to soaring heights.
Let us listen.
May our ears be to Gods mouth.
And if we ever speak,
may His words be gently spoken
and His alone.
You can tell
if you are a person of freedom.
When that other person leaves you,
you are not angry
because they didn't take your advice.
You don't talk about them
behind their back
and decide on subtle plans.
When we listen with Gods heart,
we offer something
that was never ours to begin with.
And since it begins and ends with God,
you know He will continue
all that He started
with this one and that.
I have a friend who listens
and He is the Best!
He is my loving Savior.
And I can lay my head
on His chest.
Be a friend who listens.
Be one with Him
who was and is and is to come.
Don't be moved
from His heartbeat
and may your words ever whisper
what He says
to a world full of precious treasures
handled ever so roughly.
