The Gentle Breeze and the Windchime
The breeze swept by gently
as I sat in the sunroom
on this peaceful Saturday morning.
The crickets chirping
throughout the wildflowers
made a steady consistent sound.
The occasional fly buzzing
and landing in my coffee.
The trains slicing through
the wide open soybean field
on a regular schedule.
Love watching them as they go by.
And John 10.
Jesus is saying He is the door
to the sheepfold Himself.
He came to give life
and for us to have it
till it overflows.
I sit and ponder His words.
And a breeze comes through
at just that moment
as my heart is open
and we are connecting.
The wind chime that had been quiet
up until that time
began to move.
One bar hit another and made a note.
And that note repeated three times.
Then another note sounded.
And then all those in succession.
It was truly a beautiful sound.
I was tempted to get up,
find my iPhone and record the music.
I just knew in that moment,
God was doing that just for me.
And the tears fell
and the need to go inside
and find a piece of paper towel.
How our lives are like that windchime!
When our hearts are open
to our Savior -
when the gentle breeze
of His Spirit blows upon us,
He allows us to make a sweet song.
It takes a windchime's bars
hitting each other to make a sound.
And it is beautiful.
May your life blow in the direction
the Spirit leads
and may you make sweet music
wherever you go
in praise and honor to our Lord.
