My Nate Turns 18 Today!

I remember the day very well.
Due on the 25th
but making your appearance early,
you rushed here
in the wee hours of the night
with only your Dad and I
and a nurse practitioner
to catch you
because just as we arrived
at the hospital,
you came.

It was an exciting night.
So quiet and with just your Dad & I.
We enjoyed the bonding we had
alone with your sweet arrival.

And now, you are eighteen.
Where has all the time gone?
And here you are -
a tall, kind and loving young man.

Happy birthday to you Nate!
Your name means "gift* from God"
and I am thankful for the gift
He gave us as your parents.

Keep bringing hope and love
to all who you meet.
Your encouraging words and smile
and your generous acts of service
wherever you go
are sparks that keep lives glowing.

And no worries about your future
because God has your every step
ordained and with confidence
go forward in all He leads you to.

Life can be hard
and hardships can make us
into beautiful people who care.
You have worked through things
and the glow of a deeper work
shines through you.

Your Dad and I love you
and always will.
You make us proud
to be your parents.

*Children are a gift from the Lord;
they are a reward from Him."
Psalm 127:3 (NLT)
