We Are Slow In Heart But The Spirit Quickens.
We are usually slow in heart to believe and to move forward in the things of God. Some of that slowness is due to daily habits and patterns. It could be our own thought processes. Ease of life and just going with the flow can be a cause of slowness. Opposition and persecution from others sometimes keep us from jumping forward when the Holy Spirit speaks. Following others voices instead of the voice of the Shepherd Himself is an area where slowness plays a factor.
But I love the word that Paul uses here:
“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”
Romans 8:11
Most other translations uses the words “give life”. Only the King James Version uses the word “quicken”.
Haven’t you found this “quickening” by the Spirit to be a true thing? When He imparts something to your heart, it’s like you instantly want to go and implement it and it doesn’t matter what you have to lose or who says otherwise. It’s not that you don’t care, but you were just quickened by God’s Spirit. You were given life. You were breathed on by God and the thing progressed forward. You were spoken to by God and you saw the steps laid out in front of you in the light of day. Some may not see it but it was highlighted to your eyes. Like David explains by his own experience with God:
“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”
Psalm 16:11
And I love this one. Here is quickening of the Spirit in our lives:
“But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.”
Proverbs 4:18
The Holy Spirit quickens, or shines light upon the path we are to follow. Then we are not slow to move forward because it is made clear.

The Holy Spirit’s life and work is of great value to search out, study and apply in our daily lives. When you get a chance, read Romans 8 in The Passion Translation.
“And he said to them, ‘O Foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!’
Luke 24:25
“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
2 Peter 3:9
