A Beautiful Canopy

I love my big tree!
It's canopy is extensive,
covering the entire front
of our yard.

I look out this morning
to find baby leaves
have emerged from the buds.
Tiny expressions
of the fullness to come.

Each summer, the canopy
of my tree
provides shade
and even on the hottest days,
it covers me
and I can enjoy the outdoors
with coffee in hand.

What a beautiful canopy
our lives can be
to those around us
if we don't give in to fear
and offense.

We can cover a multitude of sins.
We can be the shade
when times are very hard
and the way forward looks grim.

We can help relieve the suffering
of drought and heat
and the release of captives
from captivity.

And many can come
to know The Lord
and sit in His shade
and sing His praises
like the birds do all day
as they sit under the canopy
on the branches.

Teach us Lord to wait
and watch and learn
and grow to be
the sweet canopy others
can rest in and under
as we lead them to you!
