My Son Turns 20 today!!!

As I think about you today,

I smile.  

I smile because you 

are my firstborn.

I couldn't have asked 

for a better son

than you have been.

I had the sweet privilege

of watching you grow up

and into the awesome person

you are today.

I love your sense of humor.

You have this way of teasing

that you do that even you

get a kick out of 

and your eyes light up

as you deliver just the right line

at just the right time.

You always make me laugh

because for some reason,

your humor has this familiarity -

it's a bit of me and a bit of your Dad

and a bit of you delivering it 

as only you can.

Love how you picked up on certain

phrases and lines of ours 

and meshed them in with new lines

of your very own.

I love how you like to share

the things you love with me 

and others.

These things you enjoy

are hard to not enjoy too

because you love to share them

together.

And time together is always special 

to me and to others who love you.

I love how you overcame

so many obstacles 

without a trace of regret

or blame or anything like that.

You easily forgive

and leave the past in the past.

And God has this wonderful way

of planning each one

of our futures for what He alone knows.

And that's why we can trust

and let Him have His way

in your life because He has

good things planned.

Welcome to the 20's

my awesome son!

So long to teenagerhood

and that decade of so much growth.

There are new adventures 

to be had

and new experiences to enjoy

and be glad.

Praying your 20's will be 

a great time of more 

of all the love God longs to unfold

and flow out through you.
