The Distant Horizon
Sitting 10 stories up
gazing out the wall of glass
with cloudless sky above
meeting the distant horizon
of the deeper blue of the lake.
Can you call such an expanse
simply in terms of the word lake?
To know that such a large
body of water spans between
the United States
and the land beyond.
Two countries bordered by Erie.
I can almost envision beyond
what I see laid out.
Haze coats my view
almost as if to veil my imagination.
But Canada is there.
It’s almost as if I could touch it.
Three hours from Niagara Falls.
How I wish I could dash over
to see the sight.
One day I shall.
But for now, I sit and enjoy
where my eyes see unobstructed
to where horizon seems to end.
And how special to be here
with a dear friend.
Where need meets adventure.
Where need touches deeply.
Where need meets with special
and sweet presence of God.
Surely He is real in the middle
of our deepest depths.
When we are weak, surely
and very deeply, He is strong.
His compassion wells in times
where we are weak and vulnerable.
And I’m grateful to be here.
No matter what we go through
in this life, He is Faithful.
He is the beauty, the silver lining
of all that is this life.
Horizon of blue, veiled.
Beyond, beyond,
gazing out the wall of glass
with cloudless sky above
meeting the distant horizon
of the deeper blue of the lake.
Can you call such an expanse
simply in terms of the word lake?
To know that such a large

Beyond, beyond,
there is the real and true.
