The Perfect Storm God Used To Temper Me
I remember back when God allowed me to go through a very difficult time. It was a time where none of the pieces of my life were fitting snuggly together and the big picture seemingly dissipated right before my eyes. It was gut-wrenching and I cried out to God after I had used up all my regular resources in me to try and mend it all.
I’ll never forget the dream He gave me during that time. I was living in my house and as I looked out the window, there were tornadoes coming and they were almost ready to crush it. So I did the most logical thing I could think of and I ran down to the basement. I got down there and in the process of trying to find the best place to take shelter, I noticed that a flood was at my basement windows and about ready to sweep in and fill the basement. There was nowhere for me to go.
When I woke up from that dream, I knew what God was telling me. I had to call out to Him for help. I had to stop spinning the wheels of my own resources (and I thought I had quite a few - and they’d worked for me much of the time before). And that terrible situation that I was in - that one where I had no idea how it was going to ever work out, it literally disintegrated and things moved forward.
God has allowed several of these “perfect storms” to happen in my life over the years. When they first hit, you are taken aback and reel from how intense they are. They hit hard and they hit fast. Your natural reactions come into play and you get to see what is in you when you’re shaken to the core like this. Even in that, God is lovingly there, showing you that no one else is to blame for the “case of the uglies” that come out of you during it. And in all we go through as His people, what a precious God we have who in all things works out His will inside of us for His good pleasure. God holds that fresh vision of all we are in Him. He see’s the end result He has in mind for each of us.
Cling to Him during your storm. He is your shelter. He will hide you in the cleft of the Rock. Take refuge under the shadow of His wings. He will rescue you when you find your delight in Him. And your roots will go down deeper into Him.
