Laundry Day
I have a friend who had a need.
And I had time and machine.
Once a week she'd come
and spend the day.
Her need budded into
coffee time, breakfast, lunch,
watching movies.
Sometimes she'd run with me
on an errand
or we'd go to the store.
Then the one day a week
became two.
And her need met with mine
and grew into a friendship
of the very best kind.
The times of laughter
is more than I can count
and the things that bring tears.
Prayer together
and understanding.
It was a wonderful 5 months
of two needs met.
My friend is moving away
and she will be so missed.
This is our last week.
She came today and we
spent the day.
It was the warmest day
of winter so far
and felt like Spring.
A surprise invitation
to Ben's Soft Pretzel
took us out to join with another.
I made sure to memorize her
sitting on my couch,
sitting across from each other
at the kitchen table with coffee
and having her near.
I especially watched her face
as she talked
and enjoyed the sound of her voice.
I watched as she pulled out
of my driveway
one of her last times.
She waved as she backed up -
and I waved too
like we always do.
And she waves some more
as her truck pulls out
and down the road
and I wave until I can't see
her anymore.
We get one more day together.
I will cherish every minute!
We've spent more time
than ever together
since I heard the news
of her official move.
And when I come back
from my trip, she'll be gone.
But I don't think
I can believe that right now.
So thankful for this friend
who filled a need
only God knew....
a need we all have
for close friendships
and togetherness.
And always a basket
of fresh smelling clothes
to take home
and hearts warmed.
Laundry day will always hold
sweet memories!
