Our Identity
What is our identity?
How do we obtain an identity?
Our identity can sometimes
be what others have said about us.
Or because of harsh things
we've gone through in our lives,
we identify with being a victim.
Other times, we find our identity
in a doctors diagnosis
and all our lives we are this person
and we go about with that label
and let everyone around us know
that we are this disorder or that.
This struggle for our identity
is a very real struggle.
Even when we have gotten beyond
some of those labels from our past
and God has healed us,
there are situations we encounter
and people we rub elbows with
who may try to shake us
from our true and genuine identity.
Jesus came to seek and save the lost.
He came to turn men from their identity
with sin and darkness
and to reveal Himself.
He came to show you your true identity.
In Christ we are sons of God.
We are chosen and dearly loved.
We are children of the light.
And we are filled
with all the fullness of God.
So when your thoughts try
and tell you who you are
from your past and old dead self,
remind it out loud
who you really are in Christ.
You identify with Him now.
No longer a victim.
No longer mentally ill.
No longer rejected.
So long to that old dead self.
You have been transformed.
AND you are being transformed
by the renewing of your mind.
So set your mind on things above
and never dwell on that old identity
or any other identities that try
to resurrect and destroy you.
You are a new creation in Christ Jesus.
Period.
