When the desire to become this
or that,
to want to have approval
from this one and that;
to aspire to some great height
and gain everyone's admiration;
to find the need for competition
rising up to outshine all the rest;
to finally see all this for what it is
and to let all the pressure of it go
because you are finding
that the real pleasure
is in the relationship...

It doesn't matter who is better
or can outshine another
in various skills, gifts or endeavors;
it's the times
where one can be honest
and vulnerable with another.
It's when you can encourage
the other in all their skills,
gifts and endeavors.
Where you can listen
to heart overflow without judgement
and come together with no
hidden agenda.

How sweet is a relationship
that isn't about competition,
agenda and judgement.
Where time is enjoyed
in the crafting of simply
being together,
and if something changes
and a wrench is thrown in
so to speak,
one can trust
and go with the flow
and rest in the plans
God has for you.

When relationship is found
to be the prize,
no selfish ambition need find
employment
and all judgement
can be laid aside.
Ears can find words to truly hear
and eyes to gaze into
and nearness to treasure
in each other's presence.
Life can be conveyed
in the closeness
and one is left with nothing
but wanting more of the same.
