The Carpet of Leaves And The Children
The children were laughing and having conversation with each other excitedly on their way home from the school just a block away. They waved goodbye to the young man across the street who always walks parallel to them and yells over the passing cars a few parting words before they split ways. I love seeing this happen everyday.
Today the alleyway between the two houses across the street from where I live is carpeted with leaves falling from the large maple trees that stand beside one another and as the children walked over this carpet, I could see their shoes lost in the crispy autumn sea. There is just enough breeze to cause more leaves to fall and from my view, I feel cheered to watch them descend upon the excited children. Backpacks strapped to each one and then they turn down another alleyway and out of my view.
Sitting here sipping a cup of coffee as I look out the front windows and enjoy the changing season from one day to the next is cause to be thankful for the beautiful creativity that God blessed Northern Indiana with when He created these seasons. If we take the time to linger and simply be in the moment with Him, He gives us a glimpse at the love from His heart poured out to us through His handiwork. After all that He created after six days, He rested. It was finished. And it was good.
