The Home I Live In And God Speaking
I sit here in a room in my house that was once called the parlor. I love this new-to-me, 101 year old home. It is late and there isn't much traffic going by at this hour. The quiet feels thick and filled with a sense of reality. I should be asleep but a nap earlier along with a late cup of coffee has my brain on the alert. It isn't as often these days that I've woken up with a message from God, but just as I was waking from napping on the couch, I heard the words of a familiar passage, "....Remember the height from which you have fallen. Return to your first love."
Later, after the hungry bellies that live here were full, I was able to look for this passage in the book of Revelations. Here it was in chapter 2:4-5. This was a letter to the church in Ephesus. And Jesus, after revealing a bit of who He is and sharing a bit on some of the qualities he knew of them, He graciously says that He holds this against them: "You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place."
It is sobering to process a word from God spoken clearly to your spirit. My bible has been open to this passage and I've read it often in its context. Thankfully, I understand God's mercy and grace and that I don't have to process anything He says to me by myself. I can sit with Him and let Him express the fullness of what He wants to convey to me and how. He knows what each of us needs to hear to sober us and get us moving in the right direction. He is so wise. I'm very thankful for His discipline in my life because it gives me hope. He is my Father. He is trustworthy.
I'm tired of living life in my own strength.
