The Rain And The Birds That Sing
She opened the window
and sounds of rain falling
and the birds chirping
filled my ears.
It was beautiful.
“What a treat,” I thought to myself.
Sitting across the table
from each other.
Cards in hand.
The deep thinking.
The reading of faces
and anticipating moves.
The fun of picking on each other.
“That card was mine.”
It all started with an adaptive plan.
So much more was thought of
to do on my birthday,
but clouds and rain said otherwise.
So we went with the flow.
I love when less is more.

I love when less is more.
When the thought counts.
My friend understands the beauty
in little things.
I love that about her.
Breakfast.
Pancakes highly recommended.
Little one eating so well.
Those little cups of jelly.
The hot coffee.
The bite of friends country steak.
The listening
and understanding that flowed.
The hello to older gentleman
in booth behind.
Little one making big impact.
Bright light wherever she goes.
Hogging toy and gum machine.
Big crocodile tears until Mom
tells her that she is OK.
Big blue eyes brimming
and overflow to cheeks.
Glove on one hand
and the waving.
One shoe that had fallen.
Little hot mess.
Food oh-so-good.
Surprise stop to bakery.

The danish, my fave.
Friend oh-so-sweet.
See dark clouds near.
Larger mass of rain coming.
Leave to friends home.
Precious times just being.
I love this kind of thing.
Friend, you knew.
It was such a sweet day.
It reached out gently
with its warm embrace
and hoping even more so,
that this was a restful day for you.
More could be said.
So much that happens
in these sweet undercurrents.
The space between the lines.
The sharing conversations.
The honesty.
The gentle responses.
Working things out aloud.
Learning to be quick to hear,
slower to speak.
Kids home and homework.
Guinea toes and fingers clipped.
Fascinating process to watch
but leaves friend with guinea bites.
Daughter and both husbands arrive.
Smile as husbands chit chat.
Daughter helps with homework.
Future teacher in the making.
Spanish rice in rice cooker.
Sit for a spell on comfy couch.
Remembering the years
of times together, as couples.
Depart loving home
and people we love to be with.
Your taking time with me
was delightful...
ALL of the things.
It was truly EPIC.
Thank you my friend!
Love you dearly.
