Simply Friendship

You spoke a need.
I met it.
You called me.
And I answered.
You like coffee.
Me too.
You enjoy Chinese food
and now, I do too.
You came over.
We walked together.
You hurt.
Me too.
You were lonely.
And I was too.
You need Jesus.
So do I.

I shared a need.
You met it.
I was lonely.
You invited me over.
I hurt
and you did too.
I poured out my heart,
you listened.
A tissue you gave me
and listened some more.

Simply friendship,
you are the sweetest thing.
If complication entered,
we simply clung to each other.
Simply friendship said NO.
Simply friendship,
told it to go.

We are friends,
you and I.

Jesus came.
The Son of God.
He knew our need.
He met it.
We didn't even plead.
We were lonely.
He invited us all.
Unloved.
He loved us so much.
He died.
And now we have a home.
Heaven.
Our eternal abode.
He calls us friends.

Simply friendship,
a thing of heaven.
