The Queen Anne’s Lace Awash In Brilliant Light
We were walking our tandem bicycle along a bit of path and the setting sun was streaming upon the upturned faces of the Queen Anne’s Lace - those beautiful and romantic Indiana wild-flowers that were bordering alongside us. In that moment, I wished that my husband would pick one and give it to me....funny the thoughts that come in the moment. But how special it would have been to have a wildflower picked and handed to me by the one I love. Isn’t it the little things done in love and in the moment that excite our hearts?
How often we forget the little things in our relationship with God. We often neglect them for things we think are more important....like doing good works and being busy. We forget how much the little things mean, like taking time reading God’s Word and tearfully connecting with Him when we see what He says is so different than what we see in ourselves. How sweet the times when we tell God how much we love Him and are so grateful for His mercy and goodness.
We often forget in this world filled with Netflix, cell phones and the busyness summer brings to enjoy some time just to be with Him and set our thoughts on Him. How little we worship Him in song with hearts fully connected. How little we come together as His people apart from Sunday mornings to read together or encourage each other in Christ or even to mention His name.
It’s the little things we need to return to. It isn’t all about the showy Sunday morning duties or the official positions we take. It isn’t the churchy things we do because it was organized by the church. It’s the sweet loving things done for one another when nothing will be noticed by the church leadership team. It’s being led by God’s Spirit in the spontaneous Life-giving words spoken to someone beside us. It’s letting Him guide us into what His plans are for our day, whatever that may be. This: to love Him and be loved in return. To return to our first love when it was hearts in love with Jesus because of how He took our lives and made us brand new and forgives us every day as we share those things with Him personally where we feel we’ve gone astray. He is always there with us, convicting us, imparting the desires of God for closeness. Sparking that hunger for more of Him when we haven’t spent time with Him in awhile. He is always doing so much.
Pick that beautiful flower of your time and give it to Him. And find His beautiful love pouring over you like the beams of the setting sun awash upon the upturned face of that wildflower. Those little things are so eternally big.
