Your Car Is The Same As Mine

I smiled. There at the stop-light this morning was a familiar face and not only that, she drove a familiar car. Over the years, the fact that we’ve both driven the same make and model of car has brought about conversation and instant connection. She still drives that same car and we are still enjoying ours.

Not long ago, we bought our daughter an older, little, red, convertible sports car. Interesting the connection I’ve had with others who drive the same vehicle. There is an instantaneous relatability and connection. There are smiles and the talk of how delightful they are to drive.

Instantly there was this thought about how God must have smiled when He gave us His indwelling Spirit. How often I’ve met others who have God’s Spirit in them and there is this instant drawing close. And we don’t all share a separate version of God’s Spirit, we share His same Spirit. I love when the Holy Spirit has done a similar work on the inside and the relateability is so refreshing in listening to each other share how He is speaking to them. You can listen and smile and there is this excitement that wells up on the inside because you’ve met someone who understands. Even though Gods Spirit may be speaking to their heart in a much different way, you recognize the way He interacts because He interacts in a much similar way.....it’s much like being led by the hand by someone you know and love. There is trust and there is a sense of adventure and not knowing the full answer or the definite direction but the journey is one of freedom. One has to trust the hand that leads. It’s either that, or let go and go your own way and the tender connection becomes broken. Then comes the eventual anxiety and chaos because we aren’t good leaders of ourselves. We need God’s precious Spirit. We need Him to lead. His ways are good.....although when He is teaching us His ways, it can be very difficult on the self-life and that is what makes a good God feel like a terrible one. But His ways are perfect and all His paths are peace.

Smile precious child of God. You share the same Spirit with your brothers and sisters in Christ. He is doing a beautiful work in each of His own. So we can put away the need to control or be judgmental or hold someone’s sins against them. We don’t need to teach others a lesson by withdrawal or by revenge. We can keep our hand in God’s and continue to be led by still waters. He will restore your soul.
