Knowing God In Quiet Of Spirit

The unseen wind interweaves
along the tender branches
of the redbud tree.
Hearts sway and float along
in the flow of direction.
It’s chilly outside this morning.
Clouds have formed
and their heavy darkness signal rain.
Thick blanket covers my lap
and my fleece jacket needed.
Coffee in hand moments earlier
brought in the liquid warmth.

To know the character of God.
To understand His heart
and the way He speaks;
His thoughts, His ways,
His heart for all mankind,

EVERYTHING
begins with knowing who He is.
He is the sweet freedom
from all that is opposite
of the way He lives and moves.
And in Him, we live and move
and have our being

It’s in the quiet that we hear.
Deep calls to deep.
Away from the clamor and clatter,
the noise and chatter.
Men calling to men
with men’s words that implore.

Come away and be alone.
Shut the door behind you.
At last, alone you are.
And like the wind,
you don’t know where it comes
or where it’s going,
the flow of God’s Presence
is right there,
sweeping over you,
moving in you,
breathing Life to you.
Even when you don’t feel a thing.

Amazing His words of Life
that changes you deeply
on the inside.
Softening.
Releasing.
Pruning away the old.
Giving way for new Life.
Expansion.
Healing.
Strength in your inner being.
God’s Love does so much.

In the quiet with God,
He changes you.
You become more like Him.
And less of the old you.
And the more this change occurs,
the less you ever want
to go back to the old way
you used to think,
the old way you used to cherish,
that old way of seeing everything.
Everything changes in the quiet
with God.

It’s in the quiet that you hear.
There, in the secret place
of your heart with God
is where you delight.
He meets you there.
You love it there.

It’s like a secret garden.
It’s your hidden place.
Nothing touches that unless
business and noise and distraction
knock and you invite them in.
Sometimes they stay too long
and you have to kick them
to the curb.
And there you are.
Alone again.
And there God is.
Yours.
In the quiet place of your heart
fully directed toward Him
and His towards you.

”There are times when solitude is better than society, and silence is wiser than speech. We should be better Christians if we were more alone, waiting upon God, and gathering through meditation on His Word spiritual strength for labour in his service. We ought to muse upon the things of God, because we thus get the real nutriment out of them.” Charles Spurgeon
