No Mixture For Me
It was a snowy morning.
The air cold and crisp.
Clouds of fine misty snow
rolled across the icy tundra
of my front yard.
The children were delighted
for a two hour school delay
and wishing for a full day closing.
Reaching for a bag
of 100% Arabica whole bean coffee
and my grinder,
I discovered leftover ground coffee
from a different bean.
The beans were not quality.
They were leftovers.
The smell of these did not tantalize
my senses. These were old
and not fresh.
I dumped out every last bit.
I did not want a mixture.
Sharing with my daughter
the difference in smell of beans,
I asked her to share with me
what these good beans
conveyed to her senses.
A woodsy, earthy, yet nutty flavor
was what we tried to describe
together.
It struck me that the more one tastes
of the best,
the little one wants of less.
Press in to the best.
Press in to know the Lord.
Yes, there is sacrifice.
You pay more for what is best.
You take more time for a process
that delivers a better cup of coffee.
And it is worth it.
Don't settle for a mixture.
Get the best.
Study God's Word
to show yourself approved of Him.
As much as I dislike a mixture
and its taste isn't quality,
is as little as our Savior desires
to taste of His relationship with you
when there is a mixture involved.
It doesn't taste right.
He wants you purely His.
We want Him purely ours.
