A Greater Cost For a Stronger Cup of Coffee

The coffee was hot
as it streamed into my cup
this late morning.
The sounds of pressure
as the water was forced
through the K-cup
was music to my ears.

Little did I realize
what was to overtake
and overjoy my taste-buds.

I've always been used to
somewhat weak cups of coffee
in my Keurig machine.
But last night, my Mother
gave me a K-cup of
Starbucks, Pike Place Roast.
She had just purchased
a box of them
and I asked her for one.

Wow.  Just wow.

Strong, very strong.
Medium roast it says on the cup.
But I've had medium roasts before.
None have come close.

This makes me wonder.
Does Starbucks add more coffee
into their K-cups?
Does the cost have more bearing
on the strength?

These questions stir in my heart.

I could dig this strong cup.
My mouth was bursting with coffee strength.
And it didn't bother me one bit.

I find myself wanting
another strong cup.

Sometimes we get used to a weak substance.
It does OK until you've tasted stronger.
And then one wonders.
What are the others skimping me of?
Have I been gypped?
Have I been swindled?

Anything can hide itself
in the K-cup.
I can't see inside.
I've never measured its contents.
I've just taken for granted
what I have been given,
certain the manufacturer is looking out
for my best interest.
But are they really?

Maybe I will take a fresh new look
at the inner workings of my K-cups
from now on.
I might figure out the truth.
The lower the cost,
the lesser the quality and quantity.
Let it be.

"Then he (Jesus) called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me." Mark 8:34

There is a cost involved
and it is worth it!
